- The popular messaging app telegram, with 50 lakh active users in India are about to face a ban. This is due to the company got allegations from Centre that app is promoting extortion and gambling. The investigations has been started against app and the future of app will be decided on the findings in the investigations .Both Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology launched a probe and are looking into company’s P2P communications. An official has told that app has involved in criminal activities such as gambling and extortion ,though telegram not issued any statement about this probe.
- While telegram company’s boss, Pavel was arrested in France ,Paris and at the same time company facing probe in India. Pavel was arrested in Paris over moderation policies, the French officials said. The French authorities investigating the app on lack of moderators. Such situation may facilitate criminal activity without any detection, the officials said. Meanwhile PTI report said, “In light of what has happened in France, IT Ministry has asked Ministry of Home Affairs to check the complaints pending against telegram and what action can be taken.” As per sources then PTI quoted that, ” The basic question here is are there any complaints, is there similar situation in India, and what is the status, and what action is required.”
