After visiting the maha kumbh in Prayagraj,  why not travel a little further and visit nearby towns of interest? There are lots of places, 100-200 KM from Prayagraj that have historical significance or are spiritual sites or places of rich cultural heritage. Here are 7 must visit places.

1. Chitrakoot Dham, Prayagraj

Closely  associated with the epic tale of the Ramayana, Chitrakoot is where Lord Rama is believed to spend a major chunk of his exile. the scared town is dotted with numerous temples and ashrams and has a lovely atmospheric air about it.

2. Vindhyachal Dham

Sited on the banks of holy Ganga river, in Mirzapur district, this scared temple is dedicated to goddess Vindhyavasini and is frequented by devotees in large numbers. The temple is also revered as one of the important 51 Shakti Peethas ( shrines dedicated to the goddess Shakti)

3. Sarnath

This is one of the popular Buddhist pilgrimage sites, near Varanasi, where lord Buddha preached his teachings, and delivered many sermons. A quiet, verdant spot, with a meditational mood about it, you would do well to spend a few hours here. And then pop in at Varanasi to have some gorgeous chaat.

4. Kaushambi

Kaushambi is an ancient site which was a once a grand city near the Ganga river on the Ganges plain. there are fascinating baked ruins of several temples, farms, and other structures to look at.

5. Lucknow

7. Shringverpur Dham

This holy city, beside Ganga river, is also mentioned in the Ramayana, making it another important places of worship in India, it is only 32 KM from Prayagraj.
